How to Read Poker Odds
The calculator shows three numbers:
- Win % — how often your hand beats the opponent outright
- Tie % — how often the pot splits (both players tie)
- Loss % — how often the opponent wins
Your equity is Win% + (Tie% ÷ 2). For example, if you win 60% and tie 4%, your equity is 62%.
Key Odds to Know by Situation
Pre-Flop Favorites
| Your Hand | Opponent | Win % |
|---|---|---|
| Pocket Aces (AA) | Random hand | ~85% |
| Pocket Kings (KK) | Random hand | ~82% |
| Any pocket pair | Two overcards | ~55% |
| Two overcards | Pocket pair | ~45% |
| Suited connectors (9♠8♠) | Two high cards | ~40–45% |
Drawing Odds (Post-Flop)
| Draw | Outs | % to hit by river |
|---|---|---|
| Open-ended straight draw | 8 | ~32% |
| Flush draw | 9 | ~35% |
| Gutshot straight draw | 4 | ~17% |
| Two overcards | 6 | ~24% |
The quick approximation for drawing odds: outs × 2 = % to hit on next card, outs × 4 = % to hit by river (when on the flop with two cards to come).
When to Use Pot Odds
Knowing your win % isn’t enough — you also need to compare it to the pot odds you’re getting.
Pot odds formula: Pot size ÷ (Pot size + Call amount) = % equity needed to call profitably.
Example: The pot is $80 and your opponent bets $20 (total pot becomes $100). You need to call $20, so you’re getting 100:20 = 5:1 odds, meaning you need 20% equity to break even. If your flush draw gives you 35% equity, calling is profitable.
FAQs
How does this calculator work?
It runs 10,000 Monte Carlo simulations — for each, random opponent cards and remaining community cards are generated, and both hands are evaluated to determine the winner.
Can I calculate pre-flop odds?
Yes — leave all board card fields blank to get pre-flop win probability.
What is equity in poker?
Equity is your expected share of the pot based on win probability. Win% + (Tie% ÷ 2) = your equity. Making decisions based on pot odds vs. equity is the foundation of solid poker strategy.
