Round 1 — Enter scores (hearts taken + Queen of Spades)

Hearts Scoring Quick Reference

Card Points
Each heart (♥) 1 point
Queen of Spades (Q♠) 13 points
All other cards 0 points
Total per round 26 points

The goal in Hearts is to have the lowest score when any player reaches 100. Points are bad — avoid taking hearts and the Queen of Spades.

Shooting the Moon

If one player takes all 26 points in a single round (all 13 hearts + the Queen of Spades), they have “shot the moon.” Instead of scoring 26, that player scores 0 and every other player scores 26.

Use the 🌙 Shoot the Moon button in the tracker when this happens — it automatically assigns the correct scores.

Is shooting the moon worth attempting?
Only with a very strong hand — typically holding 4+ high hearts and the Ace of Spades or the Queen of Spades itself. If you attempt it and fail, you’ll take a massive point penalty. See the Shooting the Moon guide for full strategy.

Danger Zone: Watching the Running Total

Watch for players approaching 80–90 points — they’re in the danger zone. At that point:

  • Other players should try to force them over 100 quickly (give them hearts)
  • The at-risk player should consider whether a moon shot could save them
  • Players far behind have little to lose and may play aggressively

The tracker highlights totals approaching 100 in red to keep everyone aware.
