Double Deck Pinochle Meld Chart: Complete List of Every Meld and Its Value
The definitive reference for every meld combination in double deck pinochle, from common marriages to quadruple runs.
Understanding Melds in Double Deck Pinochle
Melds are specific card combinations that earn points during the melding phase — after trump is declared but before trick play begins. In double deck pinochle, melds are the primary way to rack up large point totals, and recognizing them quickly is a critical skill.
Because the deck contains four copies of every card across four suits, the meld possibilities are far richer than in single deck pinochle. You can achieve double, triple, and even quadruple versions of many melds for massively escalating point values.
Every meld falls into one of four categories: Runs, Marriages, Pinochles, and Arounds.
Complete Meld Chart
Runs (Trump Suit Only)
A run consists of one card of each rank in the trump suit: Ace, 10, King, Queen, and Jack. Since there are four copies of each trump card, you can build up to four complete runs.
| Meld | Required Cards | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Run | A-10-K-Q-J of trump (one each) | 15 |
| Double Run | A-10-K-Q-J of trump (two each) | 150 |
| Triple Run | A-10-K-Q-J of trump (three each) | 225 |
| Quadruple Run | A-10-K-Q-J of trump (four each) | 300 |
Key point: Notice that doubles are not simply 2× the single value. A double run (150) is ten times a single run (15). These escalations reward players who commit heavily to a single trump suit.
Marriages
A marriage is a King-Queen pair of the same suit. A marriage in the trump suit is a royal marriage and is worth more than a marriage in a non-trump suit (common marriage).
| Meld | Required Cards | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Royal Marriage | K + Q of the trump suit | 4 |
| Common Marriage | K + Q of any non-trump suit | 2 |
You can score multiple marriages if you hold several K-Q pairs. Each pair scores independently.
Pinochle (J♦ + Q♠)
The pinochle meld is the game’s signature combination: the Jack of Diamonds paired with the Queen of Spades. With four copies of each card in the deck, you can build up to a quadruple pinochle.
| Meld | Required Cards | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Pinochle | 1 J♦ + 1 Q♠ | 4 |
| Double Pinochle | 2 J♦ + 2 Q♠ | 30 |
| Triple Pinochle | 3 J♦ + 3 Q♠ | 60 |
| Quadruple Pinochle | 4 J♦ + 4 Q♠ | 90 |
Key point: Double pinochle (30 points) is a massive jump from a single pinochle (4 points). Always check for J♦ and Q♠ in your hand — even one extra copy changes your meld total dramatically.
Arounds (One of Each Suit)
An around meld requires holding the same rank in all four suits. Double arounds require two of that rank in each suit.
| Meld | Required Cards | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Aces Around | A♠ + A♥ + A♦ + A♣ (one each) | 10 |
| Double Aces Around | A♠ + A♥ + A♦ + A♣ (two each) | 100 |
| Kings Around | K♠ + K♥ + K♦ + K♣ (one each) | 8 |
| Double Kings Around | K♠ + K♥ + K♦ + K♣ (two each) | 80 |
| Queens Around | Q♠ + Q♥ + Q♦ + Q♣ (one each) | 6 |
| Double Queens Around | Q♠ + Q♥ + Q♦ + Q♣ (two each) | 60 |
| Jacks Around | J♠ + J♥ + J♦ + J♣ (one each) | 4 |
| Double Jacks Around | J♠ + J♥ + J♦ + J♣ (two each) | 40 |
Key point: Double arounds follow a 10× multiplier pattern. Double aces around (100) is ten times aces around (10). The same ratio applies to all four ranks.

How Cards Overlap Between Melds
One of the most important rules in double deck pinochle melding is that a single card can contribute to multiple meld types. For example:
- The Ace of Spades can count toward both a run (if spades is trump) and aces around simultaneously.
- The Queen of Spades can be part of a pinochle, a royal marriage (if spades is trump), queens around, and a run all at once.
- A King of Hearts can contribute to both kings around and a common marriage in hearts.
This overlap is why hands that cluster around certain cards produce enormous meld totals. When evaluating your hand, don’t count each card once — think about how many meld categories each card participates in.
Tips for Spotting Melds Quickly
1. Start with Arounds
Scan your 20-card hand for ranks where you hold all four suits. If you see four Aces across all suits, that’s aces around (10). If you see two of each, that’s double aces around (100). Check Aces first because they’re worth the most.
2. Count Your Trump Cards
Sort trump cards by rank and look for run potential. A complete A-10-K-Q-J in trump is a run (15). If you have doubles of each trump rank, you have a double run (150) — a game-changing meld.
3. Check for Pinochle Cards
Specifically look at your Jacks of Diamonds and Queens of Spades. Count them:
- 1 of each → 4 points
- 2 of each → 30 points
- 3 of each → 60 points
- 4 of each → 90 points
4. Pair Up Marriages
Look for King-Queen pairs in each suit. Trump marriages are worth double the points of non-trump marriages (4 vs. 2), so knowing your trump before counting marriages matters.
5. Think About Trump Choice
Before trump is declared, mentally evaluate your melds under different trump options. A hand might yield 20 meld points with diamonds as trump but 45 with spades. Your meld chart knowledge directly feeds into smart trump selection.
Common Meld Scoring Mistakes
- Forgetting the 10× jump on doubles. A double around is not simply twice the single — it is ten times the value. Double aces around is 100, not 20.
- Miscounting pinochle copies. You need matching numbers of J♦ and Q♠. Having three J♦ but only two Q♠ gives you a double pinochle (30), not a triple.
- Adding marriage points to a run. A run already includes the K and Q of trump. You do not score a separate royal marriage for those cards.
- Ignoring meld overlap. Remember that one card can serve multiple meld types. Don’t shortchange your count by thinking a card is “used up” after one meld.
Understanding the meld chart is the foundation of double deck pinochle. When you can scan your 20 cards and instantly calculate your meld total, you’ll bid with confidence and catch scoring opportunities your opponents miss.
