Checkers Rules & How to Play

Checkers is played on an 8x8 board with 12 pieces per player. The objective is to capture all of your opponent's pieces or block them so they cannot move.

• Movement: Pieces move diagonally forward one square at a time.
• Jumping: If an opponent's piece is in an adjacent diagonal square and the square behind it is empty, you must jump over it and capture it. Forced jumps are a key part of Checkers rules.
• Kings: When a piece reaches the opposite end of the board, it becomes a King and can move and jump both forward and backward.

Winning Strategies

• Control the Center: Keeping your pieces toward the middle of the board gives you more mobility.
• Keep the Back Row: Keeping your back row intact prevents your opponent from making Kings easily.
• Sacrifice to Gain: Sometimes giving up one piece can lead to a double jump or a better position.
